Emerging Threats Online!!!

E-mail Print PDF

Emerging Threats is a community-based grant-funded Security Research Project. Our focus is Network and Electronic Security related intelligence gathering, analysis, research and resulting data distribution. Collaboration with similar projects and tools will enable Emerging Threats to become a centralized repository and distribution point of defensive security tools and data. We are closely partnered with Cyber-TA (http://www.cyber-ta.org), a VERY high quality and well funded research organization. We will be bringing you defensive tools and signatures based on their spectacular intelligence gathering tools such as BotHunter!

We will be bringing online a number of sub-projects within Emerging Threats, and starting many new ways to distribute the data we can generate. The most important aspect of this task will be data sharing between projects, and collaboration with and support of other open projects. If you have an idea that needs resources or research, a project generating data that needs further distribution or analysis, or a tool that needs a community please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Our mission is to best use all of the data the open and commercial security community is generating. For example, sandboxing malware samples can yield a great deal of realtime and long term threat data, but often it is unused or not made available in a manner that many tools and users may benefit. We will make available the feeds and tools to best use the data we generate, and data from any other project that is willing to contribute.

The initial projects to tackle and get online will include (in no particular order):

Next Generation Automated sample analysis
A Large Scale Publicly accessible SnortSam Block Feed Network
Conversion of Snort IDS Signatures to Multiple IDS Formats

Many other projects are in the works, and we are extremely anxious to find and partner with other projects that can contribute to the overall mission of Emerging Threats. We can provide support, resources, and in some cases financial support in order to best serve the security community as a whole. If you are interested in collaboration, volunteering, or have an idea/project in need of resources, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
